A 120m long piazza defined by an avenue planting of Honey locust trees channel views towards and connects Merrion Road to the new Bankcentre Entrance Building. Paved in alternate bands of granite based on the strong horizontal structure of the original bank buildings, the piazza sought to establish a striking connection between Merrion Road, the new and existing Bankcentre buildings.
Mosaic clad benches book-end alternate granite bands approaching the new entrance building, as a reference to the existing building’s mosaic cladding completed by Italian craftsman in the 1970s.
The restrained simplicity of the Merrion Entrance Piazza is extended to three further piazzas, establishing a sequence of interconnected spaces to address the new Staff Entrance, Client Entrance and Branch Entrance. The level differential and multi faceted requirements of these spaces lead to an intensification of landscape elements, composed in accordance with the strict design strategy of Merrion Entrance Piazza.
Flowering perennials and ornamental grasses soften and complement the hard landscape structure to control, place emphasis and direct pedestrian movement.
